P. 28
Vaccines and Catholic morality
about receiving the vaccination can be understood, even
though the risk of not doing so is considerable.
In recent months, prior to August, 2021, some doctors
in 25–30 countries have expressed concerns to the Euro-
pean Medical Authority that the gravity of adverse
effects from vaccines are being under-estimated, espe-
cially about the danger of thrombosis following retroviral
vectored vaccines and inflammation and some thrombo-
sis with mRNA vaccines. Letters of warning to European
parliamentarians and even indications of possible legal
liability in the event of death or of serious harm resulting
therefrom have been sent. Similar warnings have been
issued to politicians at state and federal level in Australia.
It should be said that the concerns relate mostly to the
vaccination of the young, particularly of women of
child-bearing age, but they are not limited to these
categories. Such concerns from doctors are to be taken
seriously, given the number of cases which have
occurred. The need for very careful scrutiny, screening
and monitoring is clear, to identify persons at risk, but
the importance of vaccination against the coronavirus in
general and especially for categories not at risk from the
vaccine, but from the disease, also in relation to herd
immunity and the common good, must not be ignored.22
22 Warnings from doctors from 25 countries contesting EMA claims
that bleeding and clotting are rare (8th April, 2021), from various
countries of symptoms of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (24th
April, 2021), of particular dangers for children (19th May, 2021),
with warnings of potential legal liability in the case of compul-
sory vaccination or of constraints through a Green Pass or
vaccine passport (28th April and 2nd July, 2021), with similar
warnings in Australia (11th July, 2021). There was an on-line
conference on these matters on 29th–30th July, 2021. Cf. https://
